Pivot is a platform that is a hub for sustainable clothing brands to help inform users where they can shop ethically.
The brands featured on the application would have to be a certified B Corporation to guarantee that users can trust that they are run ethically. Main brands that are featured are Patagonia, TenTrees, Encircled, and Frankie Collective.
The goals of the project was to successfully design a app that would become users primary resource for shopping, while also keeping in mind that this app could have the impact to help reduce the global issue of climate change.
People between the ages of 15-65 who are looking for a source that allows them to buy clothing ethically and help reduce their carbon footprint.
I chose to create this application because I had been searching for a resource like it.
I found that not only do people want an application like this, but they need it. People around the world are beginning to realize the impact climate change has been taking on the planet. Now that they are more aware of the issue, they are more willing to change their habits especially habits that they enjoy like shopping.
The main design element I wanted to focus on was navigation as 79% of web users have said that a bad navigational experience on a website will lead them to look for another resource to use.
Other elements that needed to be included were:
Competitors:
By creating different personas, I was able to grasp an idea of who the users on Pivot might be.
I decided to dive deeper on one of the personas named Allie. She is a 19 year old woman who is extroverted, spiritual, and influential. Her motivation is helping to fight climate change and reduce carbon footprint. She already shops sustainably, but would love to have an easy resource for her to continue to do so.
Developing an empathy map from the viewpoint of Allie allowed for me to know what to prioritize when designing the app. It let me know that the importance of certain elements like the feeling of support and connection were important to emphasize.
To secure how the application should navigate going through site-mapping was one of the most significant processes to work through.
By mapping out every detail of how the application should flow with ease, it made the design process more efficient as everything was set in stone and simple to fully flesh out.
Being able to reference the site map made me feel secure and confident with my process.
Overall, site-mapping helped me to achieve the main design element of fluent navigational flow. This will benefit user's exponentially.
In the end, Pivot is a viable product. It has the potential to be bought by One Percent for the Planet which is an international organization that helps to protect the planet.
Another important component is the structure of Pivot has allowed it to use design psychology for good successfully. This is noticeable with the way colour was dispersed throughout the platform, especially when it was used for call to action buttons.
Pivot is a product that could make great change throughout the world.
Therefore, let the pivot to a healthier world begin now.
